Who is Lucia, the First Latina Lead in Grand Theft Auto VI?

The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, the widely anticipated sixth entry in the Grand Theft Auto series of action-adventure games, has been released and fans and newcomers alike cannot get enough of the new game’s protagonist, Lucia. The first Latina lead in GTA history, Lucia stars alongside Jason in a story that has been described as “Bonnie and Clyde” like. Both are playable protagonists.

The trailer, which had to be released online after a leak, shows Lucia in the city’s fan-favorite location, Vice City, based on 1980’s Miami. The trailer opens with Lucia meeting her parole office, which sets the stage pretty clearly. We don’t really get a clear answer as to why Lucia was incarcerated, her only response being “bad luck.” And considering GTA’s storyline, we know Lucia is going to go back to a life of crime pretty soon. That’s the point of a game called Grand Theft Auto, after all.

Interestingly, Lucia looks pretty relaxed for what she and her partner get on to during the rest of the trailer — including gunfights, explosions, and car chases — which says a lot about the kind of antihero she is. If anything, it seems like Lucia has her own moral code and an ankle monitor isn’t going to stop her. It is to be determined if that moral code with see her stick by her partner for the entire game or if Rockstar Games has a twist coming for fans.

Especially because Lucia is mentioned by name in the comments of the social media overlaid throughout the trailer. Does that mean Lucia’s exploits will make her famous in game? For the first Latina protagonist in Grand Theft Auto VI, that would be a hell of a premiere.

No information about the actress voicing Lucia in Grand Theft Auto VI has yet been released.

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to be released in 2025.
