WATCH: Cardi B Trades Verses in Spanish With Shakira on ‘Puntería’ Music Video
Shakira is taking aim and letting arrows fly in her new music video. Alongside the release of her twelfth studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, the Barranquilla, Colombia, superstar surprised fans with the music video for “Puntería.” Featuring Cardi B, the song is the latest off her new 17-song long record. Released only hours ago, the video already has nearly 1 million views and thousands of comments praising the singer’s new era.
The fantasy-inspired music video is all cotton candy pinks and dreamy purples as Shakira oversees her domain from a bubble high above the ground. Complete with waist-length rosé hair and blue contacts, Shakira is an otherworldly version of herself, one with power and freedom at the tip of her fingertips.
Set on a planet where Amazonian women rule, she watches over her kingdom with Cardi B by her side. Throughout the video, Shakira hunts down a centaur — played by Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount. After years of being told she couldn’t have other men in her music videos, it’s refreshing to see the songstress embrace her own creative freedom and sexuality. She explained to the New York Times that the journey through the three-minute-long video is meant to be “feminine and beautiful, with a very interesting story that is an analogy to women’s empowerment.”
The song itself is about surrendering to desire — stolen kisses, playful bites, a certain something aimed directly at the G-spot. “Puntería” is as much about desire as it is the privilege to give into temptation and be worshiped.
In many ways, the new video sets the tone for Shakira’s revival. It transforms her pain and anger into something millions of people around the world can relate to. It’s equal parts vulnerable and passionate with a powerful message of resilience in the face of heartbreak.
