Paulina Rubio Performs for the First Time After Mother’s Death

La Chica Dorada just brought tears to our eyes. On July 10, Paulina Rubio performed for the first time after her mother passed away on July 2. She performed at Long Beach Pride’s annual festival and parade at the Long Beach Waterfront on July 9 and 10.

“I wanted to raise my voice, and I want to bring a big round of applause to my mother!” the “Mío” singer said before starting her next song, dedicating her performance to her. “For all the mothers of the world, and for you guys, I love you so much. And that for me and my mother, [you] are my family.”

Rubio continued: “Love is in the air! Love is love! And for those that choose to have a family, you guys are my family. And that’s why for my people, and for my mother that lives within me, I’m raising my voice to perform tonight. I love you guys!”

This marks Rubio’s first performance after her mother, actress Susana Dosamantes, passed away from pancreatic cancer at age 74. Before hitting the stage, she posted on Instagram: “Give me your light so I can sing on stage today? I dedicate my life to you, mommy, I’ll miss you always #thereisonlyonemother.”

On July 2, the famed pop singer mourned her mother’s passing on social media: “With my heart in my hand and deep sorrow I want to inform you that my mother, the beautiful Susana Dosamantes, today begins a new cycle, in total peace and surrounded by her family. My example of life, a being of light, a strong woman, today joins eternal life.”

She wrote: “We are very grateful to the doctors, nurses and all the hospital staff for taking such professional care of my angel. We are infinitely grateful for your understanding and respect at this difficult time. We ask for privacy for her family and friends.”
