Cardi B Lets Fans Know Why She Doesn’t Let Kulture Listen To “WAP”
Cardi B reminded critics that she “makes music for adults” after facing backlash for shielding her two-year-old daughter from listening to her hit single “WAP.” In a series of tweets she published Monday, the rap superstar doubled-down on why she feels the song is not appropriate for her toddler.
Cardi went viral recently as she listened to “WAP” during a post-Christmas livestream. When her daughter entered the room, she quickly shut off the song and said, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no.” That move drew mixed feedback from audiences after she spent the past year defending the song’s sexually liberated lyrics.
After people tweeted at Cardi about turning off “WAP” around her daughter, she responded to a few of them and defended the reasons she doesn’t want Kulture to listen to the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 song.
“Ya needs to stop this already!” Cardi wrote. “I’m not JoJo Siwa. I don’t make music for kids. I make music for adults. Parents are responsible on what their children listen to or see. I’m a very sexy person, but not around my child just like every other parent should be.”
Cardi B expanded on her point in a second tweet. “There’s mom who are strippers. Pop p*ssy, twerk all night for entertainment,” she wrote. “Does that mean they do it around their kids? No! Stop makin this a debate. It’s pretty much common sense.”
Despite “WAP” being one of the biggest songs of 2020, Cardi notably did not submit the song for consideration for the Grammy Awards this month. She reportedly wanted to save the song for consideration for her new album’s campaign later this year.
