Banda El Recodo to Headline FIFA Fan Fest at Mexico City’s Zócalo

The traditional sound of Sinaloan music is set to take center stage at Mexico City’s historic Zócalo, as the iconic Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga prepares to headline the FIFA Fan Fest. The performance, scheduled for Thursday, June 11, will follow the highly anticipated match between Mexico and South Africa at the Estadio Azteca.

Known affectionately as “the mother of all bands,” the group is expected to ignite the Zócalo with their signature energy and rhythm. A presenter in a recent FIFA video shared on social media confirmed the appearance, noting that the band will headline one of the festival’s inaugural musical events. The performance aims to unite national and international soccer fans through a shared appreciation for music and local culture.

A Historic Venue for a Global Event

The Zócalo, the second-largest public square in the world, serves as a symbolic heart for Mexico, where politics, religion, and culture converge. Its massive capacity has hosted legendary international acts, including Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Justin Bieber, and Shakira. Earlier this year, Shakira set a record for the largest audience at a free concert in the square, drawing an estimated 400,000 attendees.

Banda El Recodo joins a prestigious lineup of international stars participating in the 2026 World Cup festivities across Mexico. Other artists slated to perform at the FIFA Fan Festival in host cities like Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City include Chayanne, Enrique Iglesias, Grupo Firme, and Imagine Dragons.

While specific set times have yet to be announced, the inclusion of such a foundational group in the regional music scene underscores the importance of local heritage in the global celebration of the 2026 World Cup.
