It’s Official: A$AP Rocky Confirms Upcoming Collaboration with Peso Pluma
It’s official! Peso Pluma’s collaboration with A$AP Rocky is on its way. In a recent interview, the American rapper confirmed the upcoming joint track and talked about his decision to collaborate with the skyrocketing Mexican artist.
Rumors of the possible collaboration started when the producer Julia Lewis uploaded an image of the two earlier this week. When asked if the new collaboration was for Peso’s album or his, A$AP Rocky confirmed it was for his upcoming project. “Yeah, we were working on something for my album. I f*ck with him. I love the fact that he’s successful right now, he’s doing his thing all over Spotify and Apple and whatnot. And he’s going crazy overseas, especially in Mexico, doing his thing,” he said.
He continued: “But I genuinely like him because he is of the culture.” He then talked about how Peso told him that when he used to work at a pizzeria in Little Italy, he would take the train and listen to A$AP’s “1 Train” and “Peso.” He also told him that he was living in New York when his music was taking off.
“I’m not really one to just collaborate with somebody because they’re poppin’. I would prefer for there to be some significance there, and I personally like him,” he told Complex about his decision to work with Peso Pluma. “I love his music and I think it’s different. I think that’s something that I want to sonically explore. That’s why we collabed.”
Though Peso Pluma is from Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, he’s recently shared that when he was a teenager he “spent time” in New York City and went to high school in San Antonio, TX. In the same interview, he shared that growing up, he mostly heard corridos, but once he moved to the U.S., he ventured out to rappers like Kanye West, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar.
What can we expect from Peso Pluma and ASAP Rocky? Whether the track is more of a corrido tumbado or a hip-hop joint, what’s true is that the two artists are bound to slay whatever genre they decide to take on.
