You Have to Listen to this Spanish Version of Bob Marley’s ‘Jamming’

One of Bob Marley’s greatest hits was re-imagined in Spanish. As part of Bob Marley: One Love movie soundtrack, Puerto Rican singer Farruko put a new spin on “Jamming.”

The biopic Bob Marley: One Love was released in theaters yesterday (Feb. 14). The movie follows the life of Jamaican and reggae music legend Bob Marley from his success in the ’70s to his death in 1981. British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir plays Marley in the movie. One Love was the most-watched movie released on Valentine’s Day, with $14 million in box office sales in the U.S.

Alongside the movie, the Bob Marley: One Love soundtrack was also released. Two Latine artists appear on the deluxe edition of the album. Canadian-Colombian singer Jessie Reyez breathes new life into the classic “Is This Love.” Farruko, who is known for his global hit “Pepas,” is the only artist who revisits one of Marley’s songs in Spanish.

“What a blessing it was to get to be a part of such an iconic project,” Farruko said in a statement. “When the opportunity was presented to me, I chose ‘Jamming’ because it is one of my favorite songs from Bob. I knew this was the one. The process was incredible because I got to sample his vocals in a song I was on. It was a wow moment for me, like if I actually recorded with THE Bob Marley!”

Farruko contributed “Rasta Reggae (Jamming)” to Bob Marley: One Love. As he mentioned, the song contains a sample of Marley singing “Jamming.” Farruko wrote new verses in Spanish that captured the song’s carefree spirit. He also reminds people of reggaeton music’s reggae roots. The music video for “Rasta Reggae” is a beautiful homage to Marley and Jamaican culture.

Farruko’s version of “Jamming” was produced by Tainy, Daramola, One Six, and Ghetto. Kacey Musgraves, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, Bloody Civilian, Skip Marley, and Mystic Marley also covered songs on the soundtrack.
