The Mandalorian Season 3 Is Almost Here — This Is Where We Left Off

The last time we spent time in The Mandalorian world, it was December 2020. A life-changing pandemic later, we’re getting ready for the return of Mando and Grogu in season 3 of the hit Disney+ series.

If you’re looking to catch up on what happened in The Mandalorian season one and two and The Book of Boba Fett, here’s a breakdown of what went down, so you’re easily ready to join the adventure again.

The show follows Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), a Mandalorian bounty hunter, several years after the fall of the Galactic Empire. (For the purpose of this post, we’ll call him “Mando.”) Mando works odd jobs and bounties to survive and subsist in this universe when he stumbles upon a young creature called “The Child” (Grogu), whose ties and appearance to the mystical Jedi order make him a target. Filled with sympathy over Grogu’s young age and the fact that there is a target on the youngling’s back, Mando instead takes Grogu and protects him as he travels. Mando’s mission then becomes a quest to reunite Grogu with “his own kind.”

As the story progresses, the bond between Mando and Grogu becomes strong, and as fans, we never want to see them separate. Also, it’s more proof that Pascal knows how to play a single dad, no matter what property.

The desire for Grogu from unsavory villains leads to an exciting season one finale where Grogo and Mando remain together mercifully. And season two then follows our intergalactic favorite father-and-son duo as they seek to reunite Grogu with the Jedi. Season two is filled with excitement and cameos, including many from some of our favorite Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker and Ashoka Tano. Season two’s finale features one of the most significant surprise character inclusion of any show ever, with Luke Skywalker finally looking like the powerful Jedi we never fully got to see on screen. It was a moment that delighted newer Star Wars fans and the old-school ones as well.

The Book of Boba Fett set up much of the third season of The Mandalorian. Grogu’s training with Luke Skywalker ended after Luke told Grogu he could stay and continue training and learning the ways of the force with him, or he could accept the gift of a Beskar steel chainmail shirt Mando left for him and reunite with his surrogate father. Much to our delight—the father/son duo we all wanted is back on track.

Season 3 will now follow the Mandalorian’s journey to Mandalore so that he may be forgiven for the unholy transgression of taking off his helmet and showing his face (and you thought your family rules were strict) to the galaxy. We know Grogu (or my favorite nickname, Yodito, as used in many Latinx circles) is reunited with Mando, so questions abound. Is he going to go on the path to also being a Mandalorian? How is his force sensitivity going to be used to help Mando? Where will they go? What enemies or obstacles will they face? The good news is that we will find out soon.

The Mandalorian returns to Disney+ on March 1.
