Showtime’s ‘Supervillain’ Docuseries Shows Tekashi 6ix9ine’s Rise to Notoriety

Ten weeks after the documentary 69: The Saga of Danny Hernandez, a film on Tekashi69 that premiered on Hulu, a trailer for a new Showtime docuseries on the controversial rapper and serial abuser was released online Wednesday (Jan. 27).

The three-part docuseries, Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine, profiles the Mexican-Puerto Rican hip-hop artist and his aspiration to go down as one of the most infamous celebrities ever known. The film includes interviews with Tekashi69 after his release from prison last year, after he made a plea deal to testify against fellow gang members.

Supervillain is based on the Rolling Stone article “Tekashi 6ix9ine: The Rise and Fall of a Hip-Hop Supervillain.” It is narrated by actor Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul).

“I think if I was to die today, I would be a legend, and I know that for a fact,” Tekashi69 says at the start of the trailer for the upcoming docuseries. The preview features Tekashi69 entertaining fans on stage and rising to notoriety to build his bad-boy brand.

We’re not sure this docuseries is going to reveal much more than we already know about the rapper, but what we do know is that projects like this (and even articles like this) give Tekashi69 the attention he craves.

“You can’t really blame people for being tuned in,” an interviewee says in the trailer. “It’s fascinating to see what the worst person on earth is gonna do next.”

Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine will premiere on Showtime Feb. 21 at 10 p.m. EST.
