Rachel Zegler Is Performing at the Grammys

It’s officially award season! And we’re excited not only to see who will win big, but we’re also looking forward to the epic performances that come with each show. While some noticed the underrepresentation of Latine artists at this year’s Grammys performers, it was revealed today (March 24) that the West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler will be singing during the ceremony.

“Performing at the #GRAMMYs on april 3 in tribute to our friend and hero, stephen sondheim. you won’t want to miss music’s biggest night, only on @cbstv. ✨” Zegler announced on an Instagram post.

Variety broke the news last night, stating that the Zegler will be part of a tribute to Stephen Sondheim alongside Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Ben Platt. Said tribute will be part of the In Memoriam segment, celebrating the late American composer known for his work on West Side Story and other musicals like Into the Woods.

Zegler is currently the only Latine performer confirmed so far. Since we had Bad Bunny and Cardi B perform at last year’s ceremony, we were hoping for more Latine talent being showcased — especially since this year’s nominees enlisted top pop artist names like Selena Gomez and Kali Uchis.

Regardless if there are more Latine performers left to be unveiled or not, we are at least happy to know that Zegler is actually invited. As recently reported, she’s been circulating media headlines after revealing that the Oscars did not invite her to the ceremony, despite the film she starred in being nominated for seven categories. Since then, she has secured an invite to the ceremony and will be presenting an Oscar. So now, she’ll be representing Latines in two of the most prestigious award shows of the year.

Twitter fans are excited about the announcement, ready to see the rising star’s debut performance on the Grammy stage.

The Grammy Awards will air on April 3 via CBS.
