LISTEN: Selena Quintanilla’s New Song ‘Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti’

Nearly 30 years since her death, new music from the Tex-Mex icon Selena Quintanilla has come out — the remastered “Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti” on July 29. Her estate also unveiled that her forthcoming remix album Moonchild Mixes is set to be released on Aug. 26.

“This beautifully captivating remix, ‘Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti,’ is Selena’s first single off her highly anticipated album, ‘Moonchild Mixes,’ releasing Aug. 26th!” the artist’s official Instagram post reads.

The three minutes and nine-second-track remix features a different vocal range from the singer. Her altered vocals demonstrate a more mature state, as A.B. Quintanilla intended. Written by Ricky Vela, “Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti” describes an unrequited love, sung in her signature passionate and powerful voice. Vela’s also responsible for her hit classics like, “Fotos y Recuerdos,” “El Chico De La Apartamento 512,” and “No Me Queda Más.”

With heart-wrenching lyrics like, “Quizás me muera llorando, soñando, esperando / Un amor que nunca vendrá / quizás me muera sufriendo, ofreciendo / Las cosas más bonitas de mi amor [Maybe I’ll die crying, dreaming, hoping for / A love that will never come / maybe I’ll die suffering, offering / The most beautiful things of my love],” it’s hard to believe that the unforgettable star originally sang this at only 15-years-old. Thanks to A.B.’s tech work, the team was able to “tune her voice down” and make her sound as if she was 23.

In a written press statement, Suzette Quintanilla said: “Very emotional and powerful to hear Selena as if she was just in the studio. Legends never die… they live on and in Selena’s case… through her music.”

Nevertheless, fans are overly emotional to hear Selena Quintanilla’s voice in a brand new version. Instagram user jessikafernands said: “I listen to this song and my skin gets goosebumps, tears run down my face without even realizing it. Selena queen forever! I love her so much and with all my heart. Thank you for giving us jewels like that, the feeling of hearing something new is simply indescribable.”

Other listeners compare this song to her previous work, which makes sense since the new album will feature recordings from 37 years ago. Youtuber user TAKURO Hayami said, “It reminded me a lot of the album ‘Siempre Selena’ from 1996, with Mariachi and that sweet, yet powerful voice she had.”

Before this release, the estate also published new visuals for her 1995 hit “Tú, Sólo Tú.”
