LISTEN: Lupillo Rivera Rereleases ‘Que Me Entierren Cantando’ Duet With Jenni Rivera

Lupillo Rivera is celebrating his birthday with his late sister, Jenni Rivera, in a special way. Last night (Jan. 29), the Mexican-American singer released a new version of their duet “Que Me Entierren Cantando” with vocals from Jenni.

Jenni Rivera was known as “La Diva de La Banda” for becoming the top woman in that música mexicana genre. On Dec. 9, 2012, she sadly passed away from a plane crash in Mexico. In honor of Lupillo’s birthday today, Jenni’s estate released their duet “Que Me Entierren Cantando.” The song is about celebrating a person after their death and was popularized by Ramón Ayala. People who later covered that classic include the late Chalino Sánchez and the Rivera siblings.

Jenni and Lupillo Rivera first recorded “Que Me Entierren Cantando” together in 2000. Their banda version of the song was released on Jenni’s album Que Me Entierren Cantando Con La Banda. The 2024 duet sounds more faithful to Ayala’s iconic norteño version. Jenni and Lupillo sing their hearts out about making their passing a point of celebration instead of grief. The emotional duet is especially poignant today, with Lupillo raising a glass to Jenni over a decade after her death. The cover art for the single is a photo of Jenni hugging Lupillo just days before the tragedy.

Last year, Jenni Rivera’s estate dropped her posthumous final album, Misión Cumplida. The LP was brought to life and released thanks to the efforts of her children, Chiquis, Jacqie, Jenicka, Mike, and Johnny. Chiquis and Jacqie also recorded a duet with their mother’s voice for her song “Pedacito de Mí.” Lupillo Rivera is currently competing in the reality series La Casa de Los Famosos. The show’s fourth season began airing on Jan. 23 on Telemundo.
