LISTEN: Demi Lovato Sings in Portuguese on The Biggest Song in Brazil Right Now
Demi Lovato is joining forces with a rising star from Brazil. The Mexican-American pop star teamed up with Luísa Sonza and sang in full Portuguese on the new song “Penhasco2,” released on Aug. 29.
Sonza is a pop star from Brazil that is going global. In 2020, she had a breakout moment when she collaborated with Anitta and Pabllo Vittar in “Modo Turbo.” Since then, Sonza has built on that momentum to score other hits like “Mama.Cita (Hasta La Vista)” and “Campo De Morango.” Now, she is working with Lovato on the song “Penhasco2” from her new album Escândalo Íntimo.
In 2021, Sonza released a song called “Penhasco.” She previously clarified that “Penhasco2” has nothing to do with the first song but does share a similar vibe. Lovato sings fully in Portuguese throughout the heartfelt ballad with Sonza. Their voices soar as they harmonize together about a haunting heartbreak. Lovato proves that her powerhouse voice sounds amazing in any language.
The two singers’ fans are loving the collaboration. One person on Twitter wrote in Portuguese, “I simply get goosebumps listening to Luísa Sonza and Demi Lovato’s music! And she is singing in Portuguese.” Another person added, “Demi Lovato singing in Portuguese is all I needed to hear before I die one day.”
Sonza is making history with her Escândalo Íntimo album. Shortly after its release, the LP earned the biggest streaming debut on Spotify Brazil with over 21.3 million streams. Also, “Penhasco2” is the first song to debut on Spotify Brazil with over 2 million streams. The collaboration currently sits at No. 41 on Spotify’s Top 50 Global Songs chart.
In other news, Lovato is currently re-recording hits from her extensive career for her upcoming album Revamped, which is coming out on Sep. 15.
