Lido Pimienta Fires Back at TERFs After ‘Fuera Terfa’ T-Shirt Goes Viral

Feminism has a long history of excluding certain women, with today’s struggle being with trans-exclusionary radical feminists or TERFs. Famed author J.K. Rowling herself aligned with the movement publicly on Twitter in 2020, giving it a bigger platform. And as the number of TERFs grows, notable feminists have come out against the exclusion of trans women, most recently musician Lido Pimienta.

It all started when Pimienta asked her Twitter followers if they had ideas for a mockup that included a photo of her and the words “FUERA TERFA” for a possible T-Shirt. Of course, her fans answered the call and Pimienta picked her favorites, which included another mockup that said “Cállate Terfa.” She even posted it on Instagram asking if fans wanted merch of these mockups.

Apparently, this proposed T-shirt triggered TERFs. They accused her of insulting women, defending “men who dress as women,” and how she wasn’t a true feminist. It got to the point where Pimienta herself had to come out with a statement.

“Message to the TERFs who are *disappointed* in me: Thank you for taking your time and writing to me, but we are on two different frequencies,” begins the Twitter response from Pimienta.

She continues to say that she supports all women and that trans women have always been there to support her. Not only personally, but Pimienta is quick to point out that trans women have been integral in the battle for equality and justice for women everywhere and that to be against trans women is only propping up the patriarchy.

“You, as a group, are showing a very strong alignment with the cis-hetero patriarchal capitalist system, the same system that destroys, rapes, exploits, and abuses that same people you call ‘biological women,’ especially the girls and most vulnerable that you claim to defend,” she continues.

Her strongest condemnation comes when she calls out TERFs for who they are, bigots.

“I am a TRANS-INCLUSIVE feminist, to be clear,” Lido Pimienta unequivocally states. “You are TERFs. Just like there are classist feminists, like there are racist feminists, like there are homophobic feminists. The complicated fabric of feminism.”

In conclusion, trans rights are human rights, and transgender people have always been part of our communities.
