Laura Pausini Fulfills Her Dream of Singing ‘Hijo de la Luna’ With Ana Torroja in Mexico

Italian superstar Laura Pausini fulfilled a long-held dream during her recent concert at the Arena Ciudad de México on May 2. Before a capacity crowd of 15,000 fans, Pausini invited Spanish music legend Ana Torroja to the stage for a powerful rendition of the iconic Mecano classic, “Hijo de la Luna.”

The performance was a highlight of Pausini’s Yo Canto World Tour, which has been drawing massive crowds across the region. Visibly moved by the collaboration, Pausini shared her admiration for the former Mecano vocalist, telling the audience, “For many years, you’ve been a huge inspiration. In that small body, you inspire so much, and today you’ve made a big dream of mine come true, my little doll.”

Torroja, clearly touched by the sentiment, responded with equal warmth. “I had a lump in my throat the whole time,” she said. “It’s an emotion that’s hard to control. Laura, you are a being of light.”

While Pausini’s tour wardrobe typically features designs that visually interpret the gypsy legend narrated in “Hijo de la Luna,” she opted for a striking black and silver tunic for this performance, creating a sharp visual contrast with Torroja’s elegant white ensemble. The result was a celebrated moment of musical synergy that resonated deeply with the Mexican audience.

The evening was further elevated by another surprise guest: Italian artist Achille Lauro. The pair performed “16 de Marzo,” the Spanish version of Lauro’s 2020 hit, live for the first time. The track, which appears in Italian on Pausini’s new covers album, Io Canto 2, was released in Spanish on digital platforms just one day prior to the show.

Throughout the three-hour concert, Pausini showcased her versatility, blending tracks from her latest project with timeless hits like “Amores extraños,” “La soledad,” and “Inolvidable.” She also paid tribute to Mexican musical heritage with heartfelt covers of Natalia Lafourcade’s “Hasta la Raíz” and Joan Sebastian’s “Eso y Más.”

Pausini concluded the night in her signature style, returning to the stage with her pianist after the house lights had come up to perform intimate renditions of “Quiero Decirte Que Te Amo” and “El Mundo Que Soñé” for the remaining fans.

The Yo Canto World Tour continues its run through Mexico before heading to the United States and Canada in mid-May, with a final stop scheduled for June 6 in New York. In October, Pausini is set to bring the tour to Europe, focusing on the Italian repertoire of her Io Canto 2 project.
