Converse Set to Launch ‘Mi Gente’ Collection for Our Heritage Month 2023

In celebration of Our Heritage Month and our Latine American family traditions, Converse is releasing its “Mi Gente” collection, a series of sneakers and apparel that pays homage to our cultural heritage. The collection represents “strength, optimism, and hard work […] passed down from generation to generation.”

According to a press release from Converse, the collection features two limited edition sneakers – a One Star Pro and a Chuck Taylor All-Star. The One Star Pro draws inspiration from the Black Butterfly, a symbol of migration and transformation. The Chuck Taylor All-Star honors the healing properties of plants like the chamomile flower, aloe vera, and linden tea leaves.

The Chuck Taylor’s also include a charm on the laces that says “Sana, Sana” referring to the well-known Spanish saying, “Sana, Sana, Colita de Rana.”

Customers can also visit Converse.com to customize their own shoes by using the “Mi Gente by You” tool and adding different graphics to their new kicks. Along with the sneakers, Converse is dropping a limited-edition “Mi Gente” Standard GRX Tee that features Latine American family symbols “believed to provide a sense of security.”

Collaborating this year on the collection is CONS skateboarder Erik Herrera. This is his first major Converse campaign. “There are so many aspects of my heritage that inspire me – from the music I listen to, to the clothes I wear,” said Herrera.

Last year’s “Mi Gente” collection featured sneakers that took “inspiration from music, art, food, traditions, fabric, and family” and was a partnership between Converse and Pangea Sound, an L.A.-based global dance music collective.

This year’s “Mi Gente” collection and the “By You” customization tool will be available for purchase and use at Converse.com starting on September 15.
