Cardi B Becomes First Woman Rapper To Earn a Diamond Single With ‘Bodak Yellow’
It is good to be Cardi B. Today, the rapper is adding to her long list of “firsts” in her career. The Recording Industry Association of America announced that she is the first woman rapper to achieve diamond status-having sold over ten million copies of her hit, “Bodak Yellow.” Cardi B found out about her achievement last night (March 8), after rehearsals for the GRAMMYs.
The RIAA also took the opportunity to bestow Cardi B’s “Wap” with a milestone of its own. The song has certified 5x platinum. She took to twitter with a video telling fans of how it all went down. “I know I’ve been rehearsing all day today, I’m really stressed out, my body’s aching,” Cardi said. “At rehearsal, they said to me, ‘Yo, you gotta meet up with Atlantic execs.’ I’m like, ‘Yo I’m f*cking tired like I don’t wanna talk about no GRAMMYs, I don’t wanna talk about no album, I’m just tired.” Her team drove her to a restaurant despite her objection. Turns out, she was pleased with the detour.
This comes on the heels of Cardi B launching her own doll in celebration of International Women’s Day earlier this week. Her latest release “Up” is currently number 2 on the Hot 100 Billboard Charts four weeks after its release. Fans can see Cardi B performing live Sunday night at the GRAMMYs.
