Bad Bunny Leads the 2022 Latin Grammy Nominations
On Sept. 20, the Latin Recording Academy announced this year’s annual Latin Grammy nominees. The most nominated artist this year is Bad Bunny with 10 nominations, trailed by the Mexican songwriter Edgar Barrera with nine. Other artists with multiple noms include Rauw Alejandro, Christina Aguilera, and Rosalía. The 23rd award edition will take place at the Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV, on Nov. 17.
Among this year’s Record of the Year nominations include, “Pa Mis Muchachas,” by Christina Aguilera, Becky G, Nicki Nicole, and Nathy Peluso; “Envolver” by Anitta; “Ojitos Lindos” by Bad Bunny and Bomba Estéreo; “Provenza” by Karol G; “La Fama” by Rosalía featuring The Weeknd; and “Te Felicito” by Shakira and Rauw Alejandro.
The albums nominated for this year’s Album of the Year include Aguilera by Christina Aguilera; Un Verano Sin Ti by Bad Bunny; Deja by Bomba Estéreo; Ya No Somos Los Mismos by Elsa y Elmar; Motomami (Digital Album) by Rosalía; Dharma by Sebastián Yatra, among others.
The tracks nominated for Song of the Year include “Agua” by Daddy Yankee, Rauw Alejandro, and Nile Rodgers; “Algo Es Mejor” by Mon Laferte; “Encontrarme” by Carla Morrison; “Hentai” by Rosalía; “Pa Mis Muchachas” by Christina Aguilera; and “Provenza” by Karol G, to name a few.
There’s an exciting run for this year’s Best New Artist. The buzzed-about sierreño siblings Yahritza y Su Esencia and the emerging Mexican musician and songwriter Silvana Estrada are both nominated for this year’s win. Yahritza y Su Esencia is also nominated this year under Best Norteño Album for their debut album, Obsessed.
The Best Reggaeton Performance nominations include “Desesperados” by Rauw Alejandro and Chencho Corleone; “Envolver” by Anitta; and “Nicky Jam: BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 41” by Bizarrap and Nicky Jam. Bad Bunny’s “Yonaguni” and “LO SIENTO BB:/” with Tainy and Julieta Venegas are also nominated.
Best Urban Song nominations include “Desesperados” by Rauw Alejandro and Chencho Corleone and “MAMIII” by Becky G and Karol G. On the alternative side, the albums competing for Best Alternative Music Album include KICK II by Arca and El Disko by CA7RIEL.
For Best Regional Song, the nominees include “Cada Quien” by Grupo Firme and Maluma and “Cuando Me Dé la Gana” by Christina Aguilera and Christian Nodal. Under Best Portuguese Album Marina Sena scored her nomination for De Primeria.
