Aaron Hernandez’s Brother Arrested Amid Alleged Mass Shooting Plans — Here’s the Latest
Dennis “DJ” Hernandez, the older brother of late NFL player and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez, is behind bars.
According to the Associate Press, Hernandez was arrested on July 18 after he allegedly planned on carrying out mass shootings at the University of Connecticut and Brown University. The allegations were brought to the attention of law enforcement by a woman close to Hernandez.
The unnamed woman told police that in early July, Hernandez drove to the UConn and Brown campuses to “map the schools out.” She suspected he was planning a shooting at the schools. The AP is reporting that UConn police confirmed a vehicle linked to Hernandez was on campus on July 7, the same day he was supposed to be in court for throwing a brick and note over a fence at ESPN headquarters.
When police went to arrest Hernandez at his home in Bristol, Connecticut, on July 18 for missing his court date, he allegedly told police, “Shoot me, shoot me” while emerging from his home. Hernandez was then tased by officers with a stun gun and placed under arrest. According to the arrest report, Hernandez said he planned to kill everyone who profited off his brother.
Another woman included in the police report said Hernandez told her that he “has a bullet for everyone.” Threatening social media posts were also made by Hernandez leading up to his arrest. One read, “Will I kill? Absolutely.” A text message from Hernandez to one of the women in the report allegedly included a threat about “taking down everything” because he was upset at UConn coaches and university officials.
According to the police report, Hernandez texted that he had been dying for years, “and now it’s other people’s turn.” He added: “Not all shootings are bad I’m realizing.”
DJ Hernandez is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
