DaniLeigh Brings the Whole Family Home With “La Familia”
Prepare to meet the Curiels.
DaniLeigh is known for “Lil Bebe,” for “Easy” and for directing Prince’s “Breakfast Can Wait” video. Now she’s calling in the people who knew her first. “La Familia” brings her together with her siblings, Brianna of Bella Dose and Brandon Bill$, on one record for the first time. It’s warm, it’s Dominican to its core, and it’s the most personal thing any of them has put out yet.
The past year asked a lot of DaniLeigh. She lost her father, recommitted to her faith and took all of it into the studio. Her siblings carried the same loss. Instead of writing three separate sad songs, they wrote one together, and they made it a party.
“La Familia” is a celebration of blood, culture and faith, built around the empty chair at the table. It’s dedicated to anyone who has lost someone they love and is still learning how to live without them. The trio puts it best in a joint statement:
“La Familia was written from a deeply personal place, inspired by the experience of losing our fathers. Through this song, we wanted to honor not only our dads here on earth, but also our Father in Heaven, who continues to guide us through the pain, the memories, and the healing. Along the way, we’ve come to understand that grief is simply love with no place to go. Our hope is that this song brings comfort, connection, and a reminder that the people we love never truly leave us.”
The sound matches the message. Producers Hansel Rodolfo and José Ricardo Batista build the track for a full house, not a solo spotlight. Altur Santos adds live saxophone that feels like a summer night outside abuela’s house. Jaycen Joshua handles the mix, so every voice lands. The three siblings wrote it with Hansel Rodolfo Feliz Vargas, and they trade lines the way families trade stories at the dinner table, each one holding a piece of the same memory.
For the video, they went back to where it all started: the Dominican Republic. Their sister Victoria Curiel directed, keeping the whole thing in the family, and Dim3Loraf shot and edited. Victoria also co-directed DaniLeigh’s church-set “Goosebumps” video with Olamide. With “La Familia,” the Curiels prove again that nobody tells their story better than they do.
The song is one of the singles leading DaniLeigh’s new album With Love, From Dani, out now. On the 13-track project she moves through R&B, hip-hop, Afrobeats and drill, with features from Tink, Fivio Foreign, Olamide and more. She had one rule for every song: her daughter has to be able to play it, and it has to come from love. As she told GQ South Africa, the album holds “no malice, no petty, no hate.”
“La Familia” might be the purest version of that rule. It’s a song about the people who raised you, made with the people you grew up with, for whoever comes next.
