Danny Ocean and His Dog Kelo Grace the Cover of Dogue México
For Venezuelan singer Danny Ocean, the journey into pet ownership has been nothing short of transformative. Known for his hit “Me Rehuso,” the artist recently revealed that he had never owned a pet until his toy Australian Shepherd, Kelo, entered his life. On Thursday (Aug. 20), the pair celebrated their bond by appearing as the latest cover stars of Dogue México, a digital feature from Vogue that highlights the special connection between musicians and their pets.
The singer, who shares his home with his girlfriend, María del Mar, explained that the decision to adopt Kelo was a spontaneous but life-changing moment. After spotting the pup on Instagram, the couple felt the time was right to expand their family. “When Kelo arrived, the whole house lit up,” Ocean shared with Vogue México. “I feel like he takes better care of me than I do of him. It’s a total ‘before and after’ — Kelo is the light of the house. It’s beautiful to see how a creature can love so deeply without using words.”
Kelo’s name is a playful nod to the popular Spanish slang “¿Qué lo qué?,” a common greeting among friends. According to Ocean, the dog possesses a unique blend of cultural influences, mirroring his own background. Described as the “guardian of the house,” Kelo is known for being intense, active at night, and deeply affectionate.
“Watching how he loves us unconditionally is beautiful,” Ocean added, noting that his relationship with Kelo is the most honest and simple one in his life. “Just thinking about him puts an automatic smile on my face.”
The demands of a touring schedule have made the bond even more significant. Ocean admitted that being away from Kelo is one of the most challenging aspects of his career, and he makes every effort to include his “fur baby” in work activities whenever possible. “I feel that if Kelo could ask me for just one thing, it would be not to leave home for more than two weeks at a time,” he said, expressing a desire to spend as much time as possible in the comfort of his home with his companion.
