Luann de Lesseps Apologizes for Misquoting Jennifer Lopez

Luann de Lesseps wants Jennifer Lopez to know that she understands she is “Jenny From the Block,” not “from the hood.” The former Real Housewives of New York City star famously mixed up the lyrics to the singer’s 2002 hit during a recent episode of the Bravo spin-off The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.

During a confessional segment, while discussing whether she should be referred to as “Countess” or simply “Lu” following her divorce from French count Alexandre de Lesseps, the reality star remarked, “I’m really just Lu from Connecticut. … Like J.Lo is from … the ‘hood?”

A producer, quickly catching the error, corrected her by asking, “Um, ‘From the Block’?” Luann immediately responded with an apology, saying, “Oh, sorry!”

In a subsequent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the reality star admitted that her time living in Europe during the 1990s and 2000s may have caused her to lose touch with some pop culture references. “I couldn’t think! Because, let me tell you, I lived for many years in Europe during the ’90s and 2000s,” she explained. “Of course I know ‘Jenny From the Block,’ but I forgot. So I said ‘the ‘hood.’ I’m a little embarrassed. I hope J.Lo is not upset with me, because I love her.”

“Jenny From the Block” remains one of the most emblematic tracks in the career of Jennifer Lopez, marking a pivotal era of her pop stardom. Released in 2002, the song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track is also remembered for its high-profile music video, which featured her then-fiancé, actor Ben Affleck.
