Alleged Alien Attacks in Peruvian Village Go Viral — Here’s the Latest

It may sound like something from the pages of a sci-fi movie script, but Peruvian villagers are claiming they are being attacked by 7ft-tall “aliens” they are calling Los Pelacaras, or The Face Peelers.

An article posted by the Daily Mail and multiple outlets has gone viral for its unbelievable anecdotes. Apparently, members of the Ikitu tribe in the rural district of Alto Nanay, northeast of Lima, Peru, allege that these masked and armored beings have been attacking them every night since early July. Along with continuing their own patrols at night, they are now asking for the military to step in and help.

Descriptions of the alleged extraterrestrial beings include large heads, yellowish eyes, and immunity to the villagers’ hunting weapons. Some villagers have likened the ‘aliens’ to the mythical “pelacaras” from folklore, creatures said to feast on human faces, fat, and organs.

“We need support for our community,” said community leader, Jairo Reátegui Dávila. “The children do not sleep and the mothers stay up all night. We’re very frightened about what’s happening here in our community.” In addition, there have been reports of a body found with its face peeled off, hence the name, and a young girl was attacked by the “aliens” to the point where she needed medication attention.

It’s gotten to the point where this story has ended up on Telemundo and local news channels. And grainy videos are circulating the internet that claim to be part of the “attack.”

Of course, the internet has thoughts about this viral moment.

Some were doing callbacks to the original 1987 action flick Predator. It might have been set in Central America and not closer to Peru, but, true or not, we’re going to assume whatever these villagers are experiencing would make for a good sci-fi movie origin story. Wonder if Arnold is busy.

Others were wondering if aliens are really taking over the world, that maybe they wanted to go out with a bang. Is anyone up for some shoe shopping?

Then there were some who thought maybe the aliens come in peace and are just looking to have a good time. And as residents of Earth, it’s our duty to show them the classics.

But at the end of the day, there is some weight to the theory that it’s humans terrorizing these Peruvian villagers. If not, the internet has suggestions on what to do thanks to Signs and those tin foil hats.
