LISTEN: This Latino Singer Put a Cumbia Spin on a Kylie Minogue Classic
jame minogue is paying homage to a pop icon with whom he shares a last name. The rising Dominican-Irish star released his dreamy cover of Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” today (July 27).
jame broke through last year with the release of his EP Príncipe Azul. From the way he embraces his bicultural identity in his songs, his music has drawn comparisons to Omar Apollo and Kali Uchis. The EP featured the sexy R&B track “Minute In The Morning” and the bossa nova-infused “Tu Me Ha Cambiado.”
“I feel like this EP only scratches the surface,” he told Remezcla in June 2022. “I wanted to take this opportunity to show people who I am and what they should expect moving forward.”
Now, jame is tackling the music of Australian pop goddess Kylie Minogue. For sharing a last name, he often gets asked if he’s related to her in any way. While there’s been no direct family link established just yet, jame is still very much a big fan of Kylie. He decided to cover her 2001 classic “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.”
“I’ve always admired the impact she has made on the world of pop,” jame minogue said in a statement. “‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ brings back so many core childhood memories, so I wanted to honor that by putting my own spin on it, a feat that would make young Jame proud.”
jame minogue turns Kylie Minogue’s disco-pop anthem into a soulful and cumbia-infused song. He sounds just as hypnotic as Kylie while singing the alluring lyrics. jame proudly lives up to the Minogue last name with this irresistible cover.
Kylie Minogue is currently on the top of the world with her global hit “Padam Padam.” The song previews her upcoming album, Tension, due to come out on Sep. 22.
