‘Andor’ Creator Explains Exactly Where Season 2 Ends & ‘Rogue One’ Begins
Although the second season of Andor is currently filming and is still over a year away from premiering on Disney+, creator Tony Gilroy has revealed just where season 2 is going to end in proximity of 2016’s Rogue One when audiences were first introduced to Cassian Andor (Diego Luna).
During an interview with Empire magazine, Gilroy said every couple episodes would skip forward a year with the final three episodes of Andor season 2 would cover “the last three days before Rogue One” begins. Gilroy agrees with Luna when he says that the risks that they will take in the second season will feel a lot different than the first.
“I’m not trying to make a career here,” Gilroy said. “If anything, I’m on the downhill side of a long career. But this is an opportunity. This is 1,500 pages of the most dynamic material in these people’s lives to deal with. We got it right the first time, and you don’t want to let your foot off the gas.”
Before the series initially premiered in September 2022, Luna described the story as “the journey of a migrant” and how that journey defines his character. “That feeling of having to move is behind this story, very profoundly and very strong,” Luna told Vanity Fair.
During an interview with Remezcla last year, Gilroy said he had no intention of bringing legacy characters back just for cameos. “We’ll never go with anybody for the sake of that,” he said. “It will always be on how they impact our story, or how our characters interact with them. That’s our criteria for bringing in the legacy characters.”
Star Wars fans know how everything ends for Andor in Rogue One, but Gilroy and Luna look to still make the journey as intriguing as possible in season 2 for this “impossible hero.”
