WATCH: Eslabon Armado’s Pedro Tovar Says Peso Pluma Didn’t Invite Them on “The Tonight Show”
Undoubtedly, Peso Pluma and Eslabón Armado’s hit “Ella Baila Sola” is being heard across the nation. The record-breaking single has gotten so popular that Peso Pluma performed it on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” last Friday (April 28)—noticeably without Eslabon Armado.
Social media users started questioning online why Eslabón Armado didn’t participate during the history-making TV appearance that marked Peso Pluma as the first-ever regional Mexican music artist. In a recent interview with El Gordo Y La Flaca (May 1), Eslabón Armado’s vocalist Pedro Tovar—who wrote the smash single—said they weren’t invited to perform.
The Mexican-American group told “El Gordo” and “La Flaca,” “We didn’t get the invitation, we didn’t hear from anyone there from the Jimmy Fallon show. But it’s all good. We didn’t get upset.” The hosts then speculated that it wouldn’t be on Fallon’s team to reach out but rather Peso Pluma’s, who should’ve invited them to participate.
They asked the group again if they were mad at the situation. This time, the group responded they were “agüitados” at first but not mad at the situation. Regardless of the lack of invitation, Eslabon Armado said they’re happy that it was performed in the national TV show. When asked if they’ve talked to Peso about it, they said they haven’t.
Towards the end of the interview, Eslabón’s Brian Tovar said: “When it’s something like Jimmy Fallon or things like that, well, it seems to me that you have to have some respect where you have to invite both groups, but I don’t know what happened.”
This wasn’t the only time the group spoke out about Peso Pluma’s solo performance on the late-night talk show. During a now-deleted TikTok live published that same day (May 1), Pedro clarified rumors about them being upset over Peso’s decision to sing the song alone.
Pedro again pointed out that he wrote “Ella Baila Sola” and that while he’s not saying that Peso didn’t help with its success, he put a lot of effort into writing the song. He also said that he wished he was there at the Jimmy Fallon show to help promote the song more.
Pedro reiterated that he has tried to talk to Peso Pluma, but he hasn’t heard back. He noted that he doesn’t know if there’s a problem, but that he feels better after venting.
“Thank you for supporting ‘Ella Baila Sola’ that Eslabón posted all over the place,” he told his fans during the TikTok live. “Peso Pluma didn’t post it at all on his Instagram, [which is] No. 1, nor [did he give a], ‘Saludo para mi compa Pedro, the song was a success.’ Nothing. That’s what disappoints me. Pero ni modo, ni pedo.”
“How would you feel if you are at a level, and there is someone else, almost the same level, or [at a level] a little bit higher than you, and you write a song with effort, with feeling—that is your song, it’s your track—and you decide to put someone else on that you like their music, and you don’t [get] credit for your own track?” he said towards the end of the video. “Like what the fuck? Basically, it is what it is. I didn’t get credit for my song, but I’m not bothered. The song is 100 percent mine.”
Peso Pluma has yet to comment on Eslabón Armado’s comments.
