Can Jenna Ortega or Melissa Barrera Be Ghostface in ‘Scream VI’?

If there’s something that the marketing team at Paramount Pictures wants audiences to know about the upcoming sequel Scream VI, it’s that anyone can be the killer before the credits roll.

Sure, there have been plenty of twists and turns in the first five installments of the horror movie franchise, which included some surprises when Ghostface was unveiled. Still, Scream VI wants viewers to know that no one is off limits, including the film’s main protagonists, played by Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera.

They noted that either could be the killer when they released their character posters. Now, however, they seem to be taking a different angle with their latest Scream VI teaser. In the new preview, the characters are trying to help potential victims steer clear of all the mistakes people in other horror movies make that have gotten them hacked to bits.

In the preview, Tara Carpenter (Ortega) steps off an elevator and tells the camera that “Ghostface is on the loose” and suggests that she has tips for those who are in danger, so they can “stay alive.” First, Barrera, who plays Tara’s sister Sam, tells everyone to “charge your phone in case you need to call for help.” She adds: “But don’t answer it if it rings.” Apparently, Ghostface doesn’t text.

Mason Gooding, who plays Chad Meeks-Martin in the movie, tells fans to “check all dark stairwells.” Good advice, Chad. Ghostface doesn’t look like a killer who would wait for an elevator.

Also, “Don’t leave your apartment. Delete your delivery apps. Stay alert,” Tara says. Ghostface has never disguised himself as an Uber Eats driver, so that’s some new advice.

As she wields a knife in her hand, Sam says, “Now, you can sit, relax and wait.” Scream fans won’t have to wait long themselves. The sixth movie hits theaters on March 10, 2023.
