What’s Alfonso Herrera Doing Instead of Joining the RBD Reunion Tour? This.
Last month, the Soy Rebelde Tour 2023 was officially confirmed with original bandmates Anahí, Dulce María, Christian Chavez, Maite Perroni, and Christopher von Uckermann reuniting as RBD. The only former band member who will not be joining the group is Alfonso “Poncho” Herrera.
In an interview with El Espectador late last year, Herrera explained that he wasn’t going to reunite with RBD because he was “going to be working.” He added: “The only thing I can say is that it’s going to be a very successful project, and I wish them all the success in the world.”
So, what exactly is Herrera working on instead of joining the RBD reunion tour? Well, currently, he’s promoting a new film satire he’ll be starring in called ¡Que viva México!
Directed and co-written by Luis Estrada (The Perfect Dictatorship) and co-written by first-time scribe Jaime Sampietro, ¡Que viva México! tells the story of Pancho Reyes (Herrera), a greedy man who travels back to his small hometown with his wife, kid, and, maid after he learns that he might be the beneficiary of his grandfather’s inheritance. But when Pancho arrives, his estranged family decides they’re not about to hand over what Pancho wants without a fight.
Along with Herrera, ¡Que Viva México! also stars Damián Alcázar (Acapulco), Ana de la Reguera (Nacho Libre), Joaquín Cosio (Gentefied), Ana Martín (Corazón Guerrero), and Angelina Peláez (Son of Monarchs).
Last year, Herrera kept busy with his role on Netflix’s hit series Ozark as Javi Elizonndro. He also lent his voice to Batman Desenterrad, a podcast series about the famed caped crusader. Last month he denied a rumor that he asked for $10 million to join the RBD tour.
¡Que Viva México!, which stars Alfonso Herrera, is scheduled to be released in Mexico on March 23, 2023.
