WATCH: C. Tangana Covers “Sabor a Mí” & Elvis Crespo’s “Suavemente” in Mexico
One thing we know about the Spanish artist C. Tangana is that his music is ambitious and genre-bending. His latest demonstration? On Nov. 15-16, he surprised his concert-goers with covers of emblematic Latine songs like the popular Los Panchos’ “Sabor a Mí” and Elvis Crespo’s “Suavemente” during his Sin Cantar Ni Afinar tour shows. The performances took place at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City.
After asking his fans for a moment of silence, C. Tangana sings his version of “Sabor a Mí” in a distinguished harmonized acapella version with his background singers. The song is then accompanied by an acoustic guitar that plays the track’s classic melody. As for “Suavemente,” the classic cover appeared to have both his fans and those onstage dancing. The Spanish singer also dances merengue with his tour dancers.
To no surprise, social media users are thrilled about El Madrileño’s creative covers. A Twitter user wrote: “Listening to ‘sabor a mi’ in c.tangana’s version is something that should be on Spotify I can’t get over it, simply a unique song.” Another Twitter user wrote: “C. Tangana singing Suavemente yesterday gave another perspective to my life.”
Other social media users describe how diverse his performance was. A Twitter user said: “Oh my God, the thing about C. Tangana.. -Rap. -Reggaeton. -Flamenco. -Bolero. -Corridos. -Salsa. -Merengue. AND WITHOUT SINGING OR TUNING. YOU ARE SO GREAT, PUCHO.” Another social media user agreed: “C Tangana is crazy, in 2 hours he staged a play with an amazing cinematography, he did rap, corridos, trap, bachata, flamenco and ended up singing Suavemente, crazy!”
The FOMO is real. As a cherry on top, he ended his performance with a small tribute to Juan Gabriel as the show’s credits came on the venue screens.
