Pedro Infante’s Granddaughter Honors Him With Día de Los Muertos Song
Pedro Infante’s granddaughter, Lupita Infante, is honoring him and other late loved ones with a special song for Día de los Muertos. The Mexican-American singer released her cover of Óscar Chávez’s “Las Flores del Camposanto” on Friday (Oct. 28).

Lupita is proudly carrying on the legacy of the Infante name, established by her grandfather, the legendary Mexican singer and actor Pedro Infante. In 2017, she competed on the La Voz as part of Carlos Vives’ team. In 2019, Infante released her independent album, La Serenata, which garnered her Grammy Award nomination for Best Regional Mexican Music Album.
Back in March, Lupita signed a record deal with Sony Music Latin. With the singles released with the label so far, she has shown her wide range in música mexicana. Her debut single, “Hazme Tuya,” was a ranchera love song. In Sep., Lupita released her party anthem, “Pa’ Dentro,” with two versions, one in mariachi and another in banda.
For her latest release with Sony, Lupita is celebrating the traditional Mexican holiday of Día de los Muertos. She decided to cover the haunting classic “Las Flores del Camposanto,” written by Luis Rosado Vega and popularized by Chávez. She put her own mariachi twist on the song while delivering a heartfelt performance. Her beautiful version of “Las Flores” breathes new life into the Día de los Muertos standard.
“’Las Flores del Camposanto’ is a song that I heard for the first time on a Day of the Dead playlist,” Lupita said in a statement. “When I heard the lyrics, I did not understand it the first time I heard it. Since it is from a poem, I had to keep listening and listening to find the beauty that is most hidden. I feel that it is what I love the most about this song, ‘Las Flores del Camposanto.’”
Infante dedicated the song to her late loved ones, including her grandfather. She is hard at work on her sophomore album with Sony. Lupita will be releasing another song soon, in time for Christmas.
