No stranger to a sneaky film reference, Jonathan Anderson has often funnelled his love for cinema into his collections for eponymous label JW Anderson and the Spanish house he heads up, Loewe. Previously the designer collaborated with Studio Ghibli, designing collections inspired by Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro at Loewe. Elsewhere, the past season saw Anderson release a collection dedicated to the 1980s South Korean cult cartoon franchise, Run Hany.
Now, however, he’s trading cute animations for full-on gore. Anderson’s latest nod to cinema is confirmation that he has already officially won Halloween, as a new capsule that pays homage to Brian de Palma’s 1976 cult horror adaption of Stephen King’s novel Carrie drops. Throughout the collection, Anderson taps into different parts of the Carrie universe. One shirt and trouser ensemble depict arguably one of the most famous scenes from the film – when Carrie, played by Sissy Spacek, wins prom queen before channelling her telekinetic powers to plot her revenge on her high school bullies.
Other pieces include graphic t-shirts, oversized hoodies, and cosy puffer jackets featuring the famous taglines “If you’ve got a taste for terror, take Carrie to the party” and “If only they knew she had the power”. For the accessories, Anderson put a twist on his Bumper Moon leather shoulder bag, revamping it with Carrie’s famous bloody tiara. Baseball caps and canvas tote bags with the graphic are also on the line-up. Meanwhile, the campaign – which was shot by Thomas Lohr – shows model Lily McMenamy serving up a perfect dose of the dramatics while sporting the collection.
The collection is now available in stores and online here.
