LISTEN: Cosculluela Releases Long-Awaited Residente Diss Track

It seems Cosculluela and Residente’s feud isn’t over. After years of tension between the two artists, Cosculluela finally released the diss track “#RenéRenuncia” on Aug. 31.

Among the heated verses on the track, Cosculluela fires at Residente: “You ain’t from PR / You up in LA / Scared like the lil’ bitch that you are.” He also criticizes Residente for not being present in Puerto Rico during the hurricane or the earthquake, yet he “came down in a Macan as usual for the photo.”

But it wasn’t all just about the Calle 13 rapper. He then brings up Villano Antillano and Tokischa by saying: “Go find Antillano, call Tokischa / Residente joins; a sausage sandwich with a legend.” In the original Spanish-language verse, “Ve busca al Antillano, que llame a la Tokischa,” it’s hard to ignore the fact that he not only misgenders Villana (who identifies as a trans femme), but also references a “sandwich de salcicha” – a phrase that involves two men.

But why is he releasing the track now, and why are Villano and Toki involved in all of this? It is rooted in the kiss Tokischa and Villano Antillano exchanged during their concert in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a week ago. It sparked outrage among Puerto Rican rappers like Omy De Oro, and Cosculluela. The “Prrrum” rapper publicly supported Omy’s critiques against the kiss “100 percent.” He even said that “the genre looks like a cage of madwomen,” and that they have to set an example for the kids that follow the genre.

During these commentary posts, Youtube user and media personality Chente Ydrach posted a photo of Residente and Tokischa – and that’s how Residente got reeled into this.

“Do not challenge me! I’m going to give you a ride! Fear was invented by the devil, let’s give people a round to heal. This is White Lion! From friendship to healing,” Cosculluela commented on the post, calling out Residente for appearing in the picture next to Toki.

As aforementioned, the artists had held back from dissing each other in the past due to their respect for their former management. They both have history with Elías de León, owner of White Lion Records, who has supported both artists’ careers and had held them back from confronting each other.

However, this time, de León gave them the green light to release diss tracks against each other. “I have always been pro-union, especially with my own. We try to stop the situation with our hearts, but sometimes, for peace to come, there must be war,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

Residente replied to de León on what appears to be a now-deleted post: “What culture? The last thing that the dumbass has is culture. Since you saved him last time from my diss, he has it in him. I’m going to bust that homophobe if he shoots.”

Will Residente reply to Cosculluela’s diss track? Is it possible for him to have both Tokischa and Villano join him? We’ll keep an eye out for any updates.
