WATCH: Juan Gabriel Returns in “Ya” with Banda El Recodo & La India
Nearly six years after his death, new music by Juan Gabriel came out yesterday (Aug. 25). In his new single “Ya,” the late Mexican icon teamed up with Banda El Recodo and La India. “Ya” is the lead single from Juan Gabriel’s upcoming album Los Dúo 3. The LP will be released soon through Virgin Music US Latin, the label the late singer’s estate signed with earlier this year.
Earlier this month, social media accounts with Juan Gabriel’s name popped up and appeared to be teasing new music. And now, his new single “Ya” has officially dropped. The feel-good track was produced by Gustavo Farías, who worked with JuanGa on his albums Los Dúo and Los Dúo 2. Of course, the song was written by El Divo de Juárez himself. He sings about moving on from a toxic relationship with a smile on his face, with Banda El Recodo and La India joining him to add to his chorus of alegría.
“It is a very rhythmic song that all of Juan Gabriel and Banda El Recodo’s fans will dance to because it has that brand that characterizes the music of ‘El Divo de Juárez,’ the touch of Banda El Recodo, and the talent of La India, great exponents of Latin music,” his son Iván Gabriel said in a statement.
The music video for “Ya” was directed by David Tames. It was shot in JuanGa’s private theater in Cancún. He is singing and dancing happily alongside Banda El Recodo and La India in the colorful video. It hasn’t been confirmed if this was footage shot before his death in 2016 or some really good visual effects that brought his likeness back to life. Whatever the case, it’s awesome to see him back in action and loving it.
“Having had the opportunity to work with Juan Gabriel is a privilege because he is one of the greatest figures, not just Mexican, but in the world of Latin music,” Banda El Recodo’s Poncho Lizárraga added.
