‘Periquito Pin Pin’ Salsero Héctor Tricoche Dies At 66
One of salsa’s most prominent Puerto Rican singers, Héctor Tricoche, passed away on Sunday (July 17). He was 66. Primera Hora reports that it was due to a heart condition.

“It is with great sorrow that we officially confirm the death of our father, Héctor Noel Tricoche Albertorio at the age of 66 in Springfield, Massachusetts,” the late artist’s most recent Instagram post reads. “We are grateful for all the expressions of solidarity, affection and respect in this difficult moment.”
It continues: “We ask for space to cope with our loss. Thank you.” The post is signed off by his daughters, Sandra, Glenda, Victoria, and Patricia Tricoche, and family.
The popular singer was known for his vocals on hits such as “Periquito Pin Pin” (which was sampled in 2021 by Myke Towers in “PIN PIN”), “A Corazón Abierto,” and “Lobo Domesticado.” He rose to fame in 1984 when he was part of Tommy Olivencia y su Orquesta La Primerísima for four albums. He then became a soloist in 1990.
Fans are mourning his death on social media platforms. Under one of the late artist’s Youtube video performances, user Ronnie Rios wrote: “One of the best salseros has departed to heavenly paradise…May the great Héctor Tricoche rest in peace…Thank you for all the salsa you gave to all your fans including me…??Vuela alto maestro???…May you rest in peace?.”
Another Youtube user, Armando Montenegro T., wrote: “Rest in peace master ????! Salsa is in mourning. Another great is gone. Now he’s putting together a rumbón in heaven.”
Artists are also giving their condolences. The Puerto Rican salsa singer Frankie Negron wrote: “Your legacy will live forever.” The American singer-songwriter Michael Stuart wrote: “What sad news ? Master, your legacy will be ETERNAL.”
