SXSW Showcases You Can’t-Miss This Year
After facing cancellations and pivoting to a virtual event in 2021, SXSW is back on Austin’s streets and as big as ever before. The multifaceted media conference is showing the country (and world) what makes Austin such a cultural hub and dynamic music city to be reckoned with. Currently taking place until March 20, the festival has plenty of parties, concerts, food events, panels, and other attractions to enjoy for both locals and visitors alike.

From musical performances by Latine artists to talking panels and parties you definitely don’t want to miss, here are all the SXSW events you don’t want to miss out.
Live at Speakeasy
Cosmica Artists is teaming up with Lucky Hound Sound and The Paramount to do what Cosmica does best: showcase rising Latine talent. Live at Speakeasy – a SXSW Official Showcase is s musical event will include some of Cosmica’s stellar roster in an outdoor venue under the Texan sky. There will also be many genres to take in, from alternative Americana band Making Movies to Tropical Electronica group Salt Cathedral. Other acts spectators can expect to see include dance-pop duo Reyna, R&B artist Flores, Chicana alternative sister-trio The Tiarras, Dallas-based dream-pop band Luna Luna, and Mexican singer-songwriter Mariangela, one of Sony Latin’s latest signings.

LA SUBCULTURA
Brought to you by Que Ent., LA SUBCULTURA is another must-see Latine music showcase that spans various genres and nationalities. The concert series is scheduled to occur at Parish off of 6th Street and features acts like Mexican trap artists Zizzy, Lil Benjas, and Adrian Be, all of whom reign from Monterrey, Nuevo León. There are also plenty of Puertorican artists slated to perform, such as singer-songwriter paopao, el movimiento singer Catalyna, and lo-fi artist Enyel C. Panama-born, Atlanta-raised R&B artist Chicocurlyhead is also scheduled to perform, as well as Bresh for an anticipated DJ set.

Sounds from Spain
Spain’s rich and innovative music scene is coming to SXSW 2022 with Sounds from Spain, a two-day event featuring some of the country’s rising artists. Scheduled to take place at two different Austin venues on two separate days, the lineup consists of artists from various Spanish regions, including Catalunya, Andalucia, and the Basque Country, and musical genres from el movimiento to punk rock. Acts scheduled to make an appearance are dance/electronic producer Baiuca, Alternative band Belako, indie rock artist Marta Knight, and Cruz Cafuné. “Sounds from Spain” will also showcase musical guests that blend contemporary sound with flamenco elements, such as pop/R&B artist Queralt Lahoz and Sevilla-born rock band Derby’s Motoreta Burrito Kachimba.

BMI Presents Sonidos
Taking place at The Venue ATX on March 17, Sonidos is a Latine music showcase hosted by BMI and presented by nu-cumbia pioneer DJ El Dusty. The musical event will include acts from across the Caribbean and Latin America, such as Puertorican folk singer Andrea Cruz, Mexican-American hip-hop artist La Doña, and Venezuelan pop singer Le Coco Ramos. Also, Mexican-American singer-songwriter Nancy Sanchez, Chilean electronic artist Wired Sessions, and Colombian Tropical Electronica duo Salt Cathedral round off the setlist for the concert series. The exciting aspect of Sonidos is that not one of the artists is confined to a single genre. Each act has noticeable influences from various genres, including folk music, trap, traditional Mexican music, R&B, soul, and more. In other words, it’s a snapshot of the diversity within today’s thriving Latine music scene.

Bresh & Que Ent. present: El After
Bresh and & Que Ent. are back at Parish for more after their Wednesday night event, and this time it’s for “El After.” As the name suggests, guests can look forward to a great night of Latine electronic music, plus a few surprises (or, in this case, surprise guests) to keep things interesting. Currently confirmed guests include “anonymous” Puertorican DJ/producer Fux Beat, Mexican DJ Milkman, and Miami-based DJ/Producer MJ NEBREDA.

Recreo
Monterrey-born DJ Milkman is bringing his famous RECREO party to SXSW. Also known for his work as J Balvin’s Creative Director and the founder of Broke Kids Music Label, Milkman’s party was a monthly gig at LA’s Los Globos before touring New York City, Europe, and Miami’s Art Basel festival. Full performer line-up to be revealed on the day of event.
