Blackpink’s Lisa Becomes First K-Pop Star to Hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Sales Chart
For the first time in her career, Blackpink rapper Lalisa Manobal, better known as Lisa, has hit the Billboard’s Latin charts. The South Korean performer reached the feat with her collaboration with Ozuna, DJ Snake, and Megan Thee Stallion on the track “SG.”
In doing so, Lisa became the first K-pop musician to hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Sale Chart. According to Forbes, the track sold 3,500 copies. The song also made Billboard’s charts for Hot Latin Songs and Latin Streaming Songs, coming it at No. 11 on both.
At one point in the music video for “SG,” which is short for “sexy girl,” Lisa, Ozuna, Snake, and Stallion meet on the top of a bright orange and yellow stage floating on a swimming pool. Most of the video features Lisa performing a choreographed dance alongside a group of masked women. For the last section of the song, Lisa sings about dancing and gets to sing one word in Spanish: Baila.
“Baila, what you want? Dance for you/I’ll sway, sway all night with you…”
Working with Ozuna marks the third time that a member of Blackpink has teamed up with a Latine singer. The K-pop group released “Ice Cream” last year with singer Selena Gomez, who wrote the song. Blackpink also performed with rapper Cardi B on last year’s track “Bet You Wanna.”
This isn’t the first time that a K-pop group has made it on the Billboard Latin charts. Back in 2018, the Super Junior debut of “Lo Siento” with Leslie Grace made it to the Latin charts. Not long after that they hit it big again with “One More Time” with Reik.
We’re still waiting for our dream collabs with other K-pop groups and Latine artists like Daddy Yankee and NCT 127, Kail Uchis and Zico, and Fied and MAMAMOO.
