Daddy Yankee Entering Hall of Fame at 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards
Daddy Yankee will be inducted into the hall of fame at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The global superstar is set to receive the award next week, on September 23, during the ceremony. He is also scheduled to perform his latest hit, “Métele al Perreo,” for the first time ever.
Billboard and Telemundo announced the news this morning (September 13). “Given to artists who have achieved worldwide recognition for their work, transcending musical genres and languages, the accolade will honor the Puerto Rican hitmaker for his fruitful career that spans over three decades as a pioneer and top exponent of reggaeton,” stated Billboard.
Past recipients of the Billboard Hall of Fame Award include Vicente Fernández, Marco Antonio Solís, Marc Anthony, and Alejandro Fernández.
Daddy Yankee has a musical career that spans over three decades and includes hits such as “Limbo,” “Rompe,” and “Lovumba.” His music has been a constant staple on the Latin charts selling more than 17 million albums. Daddy Yankee has even more impressive numbers on the Billboard Latin Song Charts. Of his 84 entries, 36 have been in the top 10, and seven are No. 1 hits. Those numbers combined with other appearances on various other Latin Charts have helped to earn him the title of “King of Reggaeton.”
The Billboard Latin Music Awards are part of Billboard Latin Music week happening in Miami from September 20 to September 25. Daddy Yankee is set to participate in events throughout the week, including a Q&A on September 22 and a performance at the Billboard En Vivo Concert.
Other artists taking part in the week-long festivities are Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, Natti Natasha, and many more.
As for the Billboard Latin Music Awards, it will be broadcast live on Telemundo at 8 p.m. ET.
