Hailey Bieber Is On Board With the Supersized Coat
Getting dressed in the winter often becomes about testing how many things we can pile on top of ourselves (running the risk of looking like the Marshmallow Man in the process). For this exercise, a roomy coat is needed. In fact, one should take a cue from Hailey Bieber (and the runways) and rock the supersized coat instead, which is perfect for layering.
This weekend in Los Angeles—which is, admittedly, not that cold—Bieber bundled up in style with an oversized cream coat. Hers was double-breasted by Balenciaga, and the sharp, boxy shoulders was a continuation of the styles that designer Demna Gvasalia keeps coming out with. The huge coat is, in fact, a big runway trend right now. It’s popped up at labels such as Mugler, Loewe, Peter Do, and The Row. A few seasons ago, Marc Jacobs released a whole collection of them in bright ‘80s hues. Bieber’s coat was decidedly more minimal, however, and she paired it with a black sweater, white sweatpants, and sleek, low-top sneakers.
If she wanted to, Bieber could also fit a scarf, sweater, and a whole blazer underneath that roomy coat—the sky’s the limit in terms of pairings. And the best part about its cool, oversized silhouette is that one doesn’t need to splurge on a designer style to get a similar look, either. You can simply buy any coat that’s about two sizes too large. So, the next time you’re coat shopping, remember the mantra: go big or go home.
