2021 Grammys Postponed Due To COVID-19 Pandemic Concerns

The 2021 Grammy Awards have been postponed. According to Rolling Stone, the high number of COVID-19 cases in LA is the reason “Music’s Biggest Night” won’t take place this month on Jan. 31 as originally planned.

This week, LA county’s director of public health, Dr. Barbara Ferrer said every 15 minutes a person in the county dies from COVID-19. Meanwhile, a reported 7,600 people in LA are hospitalized with COVID symptoms.

The Grammys have planned a “limited show” for March 2021, according to The Fader. In other words, no live audience and only performers and presenters on-site. Nominees and winners would likely accept their awards remotely like many of last year’s award ceremonies in this era of the pandemic.

Nominations were announced on Nov. 27 with Beyoncé leading the pack with nine nominations. Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, and Roddy Ricch followed behind her with six nominations each.

A few Latine nominees include Bad Bunny, Arca, and Lido Pimienta. Selena was also scheduled to receive a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award that her family was planning to accept on her behalf. The Grammys have not yet released a statement on the postponement.
