Shakira Was the Most Searched Artist on Google This Year
Shakira is Google’s top trending artist of 2020. Google revealed its top searches of the year on Wednesday (Dec. 9), and the Colombian superstar came out on top for music.
In the U.S., Shakira came out at No. 1 on both the top trending artist and band lists. She is notably the only Latine artist in the top trending artist list with August Alsina, Adele, Doja Cat, Grimes, Van Halen, Lizzo, Tamar Braxton, Quando Rondo and Tory Lanez behind her.
On the top trending person of the year list Shakira comes in at No. 7. In the top 10, she leads Tom Brady, Kanye West, and Vanessa Bryant.
There’s a good reason for Shakira to be the top trending artist of the year on Google. Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she put on the biggest show of the year at the Super Bowl Halftime show in February with co-headliner Jennifer Lopez. J.Lo did not appear in the top 10 of the trending artists list. During that concert, they invited Colombian reggeatonero J Balvin and Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny as special guests.
Shakira is ending off the year going viral as well. Her wild dance routine in the Black Eyed Peas’ “Girl Like Me” music video is inspiring her fans to recreate it on TikTok. It’s one of the most viral moments on the platform right now.
Shakira’s last album was 2017’s El Dorado. Outside of “Girl Like Me,” she also teamed up with Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA on “Me Gusta” this year.
