7 Daddy Yankee Dream Collabs We Want To See Before His Retirement

Iconic reggaeton global star Daddy Yankee has officially announced his retirement after 32 years of making music and history. Yes, it’s been a hard day of processing the news for those of us who grew up listening to him on the radio. But alas, all good things must come to an end. However, he’s not leaving without saying goodbye. Just like Wisin y Yandel, the Puerto Rican artist will be releasing a final album, Legendaddy, on March 24 and going on a 41-date “La Última Vuelta World Tour.” So we have one last opportunity to sing to “Gasolina” with The Big Boss himself.

While fans are sad about the decision and realize this may be their last opportunity to see the “King of Reggaeton” live, they are also happy knowing that he’s wrapping his legacy with a final bang.

We’d also sell anything for a chance to see Daddy Yankee perform his immaculate collection of hits — which include many classic collaborations. The “Gasolina” singer collaborated with the best of the Latine and American music scene. He is known for his musical trajectory with many hit collaborations throughout his three-decade-long career, including being involved in one of the most popular songs of 2017, “Despacito,” alongside Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi.

Furthermore, what has made him stay on top charts and known globally is that he’s never been one to shy away from unexpected collaborations. We’ve seen him cross almost every genre with his work with icons like Janet Jackson, Pharrell, Snoop Dogg, and Ivy Queen. He also co-signed the newer generation, working with Bad Bunny, Jhay Cortez, and Lunay. But imagine if he had the time to collaborate with other artists that would’ve taken his genre-breaking crossover to another level?

And yet, we do have one last opportunity on Legendaddy. With one more album up his sleeve, fans can’t help but imagine what could be (or could’ve been) had he collaborated with more artists in his musical career. Here’s a list of what could’ve been or could be across languages and musical scenes.

This collaboration idea sparked a whirlwind of hope when the members of BTS danced to Daddy Yankee’s “Con Calma.” This lead to them eventually being asked if they’d ever collaborate with him, to which they responded positively. From one global phenomenon to another, c’mon Daddy Yankee, we want to see the internet break!

The Dominican rapper is one of the most talked-about emerging artists from the scene. She was recently featured in Rosalía’s latest album Motomami, where she proved yet again that her unapologetic voice is something that’s needed in el movimiento. This dream collaboration could be a symbolic baton pass, from the GOAT to the future one.

In 2006, the Premios MTV had the two artists together on stage performing a special rendition of Julieta Venegas’ “Eres Para Mi.” That’s the closest thing to a proper collab, but we wish we had more. Look at them vibe out! We deserved a full-fledged collaboration based on the energy alone. Plus, after seeing Venegas hop on Tainy’s “Lo Siento BB:/,” we know she has it in her.

Rauw Alejandro’s latest EP Trap Cake Vol. 2 showed us more of his versatility, which would’ve been cool to see Daddy Yankee hop on. Imagine a pop reggaeton collaboration here? Their audience would’ve gone wild. Remember the hype over Bad Bunny’s “La Santa?”

These two icons came up in the Latine scene almost simultaneously in their respective lanes. We frequently saw them at the same awards shows and topping the charts. As a result, hardcore fans have always brought up this dream collaboration. Not to be too picky, but imagine an alternative rocker era Shakira collaboration with Daddy Yankee?

We can’t help but imagine a collaboration between the two rappers on an epic track produced by Tainy or Ovy On The Drums. That would’ve taken the Latine culture to the next level. Just think of Cardi B’s “I Like It”’s hype! It would’ve been this year’s summer hit.

It’s rumored that Britney Spears is making new music after six years of hiatus. This could’ve been a dream-pop collaboration between the two. We’ve seen Daddy Yankee collaborate with pop singers such as Katy Perry and Janet Jackson before, so in the same vein, this could’ve been part of her highly-anticipated upcoming comeback as a free artist.
