Will Sasha Calle Play Supergirl in DC’s New 10-Year Plan? — Here’s What We Know

On Tuesday (January 31), James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new heads of DC brought in to oversee the rebranding of the superhero studio, revealed what their 8 to 10-year plan was going to entail to get the DC house in order.

Gunn and Safran were clear about the future of actors Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, and Zachary Levi reprising their roles as Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Shazam. “There’s no reason why any of … the actors that play … those characters are not part of the DCU. There’s nothing that prohibits that from happening.”

The duo, however, were less committal about other actors, including Sascha Calle, who will play Supergirl in The Flash this summer. Calle, who is Colombian American, is the first Latina Supergirl in DC history. When asked if Calle would fit into the new chapter of the DC Universe, Gunn said, “We’re figuring it all out.”

Gunn and Safran also announced plans for a new movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and said the character is a “much more jaded character” and that Supergirl was raised on a chunk of Krypton and watched so many perish around her in a terrible way. We’ll see if Calle is part of those plans. (She’s certainly got the brooding look to pull it off if that’s anything.) And hopefully, she doesn’t end up getting cast aside like Latina Batgirl Leslie Grace.

To be fair, Gunn and Safran do have a lot to figure out with the amount of chaos at DC Studios. Questions still linger about Flash star Ezra Miller and their future with the franchise since their criminal offenses started mounting, including accusations of assault, disorderly conduct, burglary, and child grooming.

“When the time is right, when [Ezra] feel[s] they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is,” Gunn said. “But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery.”

In early 2021, Calle was cast as Supergirl for the upcoming Flash movie. Director Andy Muschietti (It Chapter Two) delivered the news to her via a video call. According to Deadline, during their announcement, Gunn and Safran said they would love to reteam with Muschietti on a future project.
