Continuing our series introducing the 2020 Dazed 100 Ideas Fund recipients – following a watering tour of DJ Freedem’s plant filled Brooklyn apartment and a set visit with Ella Snyder shooting transgender model and nightlife icon Connie Girl – this new film takes us into the world of photographer Alfie White.
Known for his black and white shots of the local communities where he lives in south London, 20-year-old Alfie has started shooting subjects for Herd Immunity, a photo-essay capturing the lives and stories of people who have been affected by the UK Government’s handing, or rather mishandling, of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results are already revelatory: “What it’s resulted in is this collective striving for change and not accepting things just because that’s the way they are,” Alfie says.
Speaking about his selection as one of the four recipients of a Dazed 100 Ideas Fund grant, Alfie says, “Getting this grant is just so, so helpful… It’s allowing me to pursue something which, otherwise, I don’t think I’d ever be able to pursue.” Watch the full video, above, to see Alfie in action, and then read Alfie in conversation with his photography hero Andre D. Wagner.
