WATCH: Metallica Jams With Joseph Quinn From ‘Stranger Things’ at Lollapalooza
On July 28, the iconic band Metallica invited Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn to recreate the “Master of Puppets” scene from the season four finale in real life backstage at Lollapalooza. The massive festival took place between July 28 to July 31 in Chicago, IL – and yes, the reunion was as epic as it sounds.
The video starts with Quinn asking the Metallica members if they’re fans of the show. “I’m a big fan of it. I have been since season one. My kids and I, it’s been a bonding experience for us,” frontman James Hetfield answers. “Thanks for doing it justice, by the way.” Quinn then responds, “It’s all I was listening to for two years. Yeah, I feel very connected to you guys.” Metallica’s bassist, Robert Trujillo, chimes in, asking, “Want to go jam?”
The video concludes with the five jamming to the 1986 classic “Master of Puppets” in an intimate circle. Trujillo then brings in a B.C. Rich guitar – like the one in the show – which the band signs and gifts the actor.
On the show, while Quinn’s character, Eddie Munson, gives a guitar shredding of “Master of Puppets,” he had some help. Trujillo’s own son, Tye Trujillo, actually got to play some of the guitar tracks for the scene. Moreover, during Metallica’s actual Lollapalooza performance, footage of Stranger Things’ Eddie Munson played on the screens as they performed the song.
Fans were thrilled to see the Netflix show’s homage during the enormous festival. A Twitter user said: “YESSS EDDIE ON THE BIG SCREENS FOR METALLICA.” Another Twitter user noticed Quinn’s actual excitement upon meeting the metalheads: “Joseph Quinn’s pure happiness while meeting Metallica means so much to me.”
“It was amazing! Opportunities to play ‘Master of Puppets’ with the most iconic metal band of all time don’t come around very often,” Quinn later told Netflix’s Tudum. “A story for the grandkids.”
