WATCH: ‘La Usurpadora, the Musical’ Debuts Cover of Iconic Celia Cruz Song

There’s nothing like a good music video to reawaken nostalgia. That is particularly true when the video, in this case from the new La Usurpadora, the Musical, features Celia Cruz’s famous song La vida es un carnaval. Talk about a blast from the past, in a good way.

In preparation for La Usurpadora, the Musical, which will premiere on April 7, 2022, Pantelion Films released their cover and music video one of the many songs to be featured in the musical.

Set against a Vegas backdrop that features Isabella Castillo (El Señor de los Cielos) as both Valeria and Victoria, the music video takes us into their very different lives. One is filthy rich and the other living it day by day, they both enjoy their lives but have struggles that are holding them back from what they truly want. That all changes when they hatch a plan centered on the fact they look just alike. But, as fans tune into the musical, they will discover not all that glitters is gold.

La Usurpadora, the Musical is based on the classic 1990s telenovela starring the iconic Gabriela Spanic. In the telenovela, two identical twin sisters were separated at birth. And the rich and cruel one hatches a plan to get her kind counterpart to assume her life. What she doesn’t expect is for her kind sister to sweep everyone off their feet, making the situation more complicated for everyone. It ran for 102 episodes and we’re hoping Spanic makes an appearance as she is in the cast credits at the end of the official trailer.

The musical is set to feature Latin music hits from the 90s, including La Vida Es Un Carnaval, Mi Tierra, Dame Otro Tequila, Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, Livin’ La Vida Loca, Vuelve, Con Zapatos De Tacón, Cosas Del Amor y No Me Ames, among many others.
