WATCH: Kali Uchis Goes Bolero in Explosive ‘Te Mata’ Music Video

Kali Uchis is embracing bolero in her new single. Today (Oct. 20), the Colombian-American superstar premiered the melodramatic music video for “Te Mata,” the latest single off her upcoming album.

Kali is no stranger to embracing bolero influences. In 2016, she released a cover of “Sabor A Mi” which was written by Mexican composer Álvaro Carrillo. The opening song on her 2020 Spanish album Sin Miedo (Del Amor y Otros Demonios) was also a bolero called “La Luna Enamorada.” Now, she is returning to the sound in her latest single, “Te Mata.”

“Te Mata” is a lush bolero ballad from her upcoming album Orquídeas. Kali first performed the song live during her set at Coachella earlier this year. She sings about proudly embracing the diabla role in a toxic relationship and using her “wings” to fly away from that situation. Kali sings her heart out in this bolero that’s to die for.

Bethany Vargas, who has previously worked with The Marías, brings Kali Uchis’ beautiful bolero to life in the music video. When asked in Spanish what she thinks about the people who didn’t believe in her, she responds, “Well, I would like for them to see that I’m happy without them.” Kali’s tumultuous relationship from the song plays out in stunning scenes that look like they were pulled from a telenovela. She gets her revenge by making her ex’s sports car explode in a giant ball of flames.

Back in August, Kali Uchis dropped the first single from Orquídeas. She teamed up with El Alfa and the City Girls’ JT for the dembow banger “Muñekita.” Earlier this week, the “Telepatía” singer revealed the tracklist for the album, which will feature Peso Pluma, Karol G, and Rauw Alejandro. She previously featured on Karol G’s song “Me Tengo Que Ir.” Orquídeas will be released on Jan. 12.
