WATCH: Grupo Frontera & Morat Perform “No Se Va” for the First Time Together
Grupo Frontera became a breakout band in regional Mexican music last year thanks to their cover of “No Se Va.” On Thursday night (Feb. 2), the group performed the song for the first time with the band that created it, Morat.
Morat first recorded and released “No Se Va” in 2019. The folk-pop song was on the Colombian band’s album Balas Perdidas. “No Se Va” is one of Morat’s biggest hits, with over 212 million views on YouTube. On Spotify, the original version of the song has over 274 million streams.
Last year, Grupo Frontera recorded a cumbia version of “No Se Va.” In a live performance, the Texan band’s lead singer, Adelaido “Payo” Solis III, injected “No Se Va” with Mexican soul that helped the song connect with a new audience. During Morat’s tour stop in San Antonio, Grupo Frontera came out as special guests. For the first time ever, Morat and Grupo Frontera performed “No Se Va” on the same stage.
In a post on Instagram, Morat expressed their excitement to perform “No Se Va” with Grupo Frontera. “Thank you for being part of this madness,” the Colombian group wrote.
This past Oct., Grupo Frontera took “No Se Va” to the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart. When the song debuted at No. 99, it became the fifth regional Mexican music song in history to appear on the chart. Grupo Frontera’s version of the song has over 231 million streams on Spotify.
Into this year, Grupo Frontera has kept the momentum behind their rise going strong. Last month, Grupo Frontera hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart alongside Fuerza Regida. Both Mexican-American groups reached the summit with their hit duet “Bebe Dame.” Grupo Frontera also reached No. 3 on the chart with “Que Vuelvas” featuring Mexican singer Carin León.
