WATCH: ‘Florida Man’ Sets Édgar Ramírez on Wacky Crime Adventure in Netflix Show

Édgar Ramírez (Hands of Stone) takes the lead in Florida Man, an upcoming Netflix limited series that follows ex-cop and gambling addict Mike Valentine (Ramírez) as he returns to his home state of Florida to track down a mobster’s ex-girlfriend, Delly (Abbey Lee).

Created by Donald Todd (Ugly Betty), the series seems to take its name from the 2013 internet meme that refers to the idea that bizarre situations always seem to happen to the male residents of Florida and, in turn, create some wacky headlines.

Just Google “Florida Man” and see what pops up on the search engine on any given day. For example, Monday night (March 27) the headlines “Florida man slaps woman with slice of pizza during argument” and “Florida man accused of driving 100 mph to get girlfriend to Taco Bell interview” were two of the top articles.

Even the official synopsis for Florida Man feels like Ramírez’s Mike Valentine might find himself under some strange circumstances during the show’s 8-episode run. Once Mike gets back to Florida to search for Delly, his “quick gig becomes a wildly spiraling journey … in a place where so much is wrong.”

In the first trailer for the series, Mike tells the mobster (Emory Cohen), whom he owes money to, that if he goes to Florida and brings his ex-girlfriend back to him, he wants to “walk away clean forever” – his entire debt. The mobster agrees.

Mike turns to his ex-con father Sonny (Anthony LaPaglia) to help him find Delly. However, when they do find her, there seems to be a good reason she went missing, and it has to do with a lot of cash, which Mike and Sonny now want a piece of.

We’ll find out who ends up with all the loot when Florida Man premieres on Netflix on April 13, 2023.
