WATCH: Becky G Covers Classics by Ana Gabriel & Ramón Ayala

While stepping into 2023, Becky G has revisited some classics from the past. On social media this month, the Mexican-American pop star covered classics by Mexican icons like Ana Gabriel and Ramón Ayala.

Becky G appears to be enjoying some downtime before she performs at Calibash in Los Angeles this Sunday. Over the weekend, she posted a video of herself singing Ana Gabriel’s classic “A La Orilla De Un Palmar.” Becky G belts her heart out in acapella to the regional Mexican music ballad. “Since I was a little girl, my abuelito Ángel showed me how to sing this song,” she wrote in the caption.

While in her kitchen, Becky G posted a video to her Instagram stories where she was singing along to Ramón Ayala. She danced along to the norteño classic “Chaparra De Mi Amor.” Towards the end of the video, Becky G let out her Mexican grito. “Wishing this ginger shot was a shot of Patron El Alto,” Becky G wrote in the video caption.

Becky G is no stranger to regional Mexican music. She blended cumbia with reggaeton in last year’s smash hit “MAMIII” alongside Karol G. In Nov., she performed a mariachi version of the song at Premios De La Radio in Mexico City. At the biggest regional Mexican music awards show, she also paid tribute to Paquita La Del Barrio. Becky G also sang “Ya Acabó” with Marca MP at the event.

It will be interesting to see if Becky G sings “MAMIII” with Karol G at Calibash. Both artists are a part of Sunday’s line-up that also includes Zion y Lennox, Farruko, Feid, Sech, and Blessd. In April, Becky G will perform at both weekends of the Coachella music festival. She appeared at the mainstage last year during Karol G’s set when they sang their collaboration together.
