Walter Mercado’s Former Home Is Still for Sale (at a Reduced Price!) in Puerto Rico

The home of world renowned astrologer, Walter Mercado, who died in 2019, is for sale, and has apparently been for sale since September 2020. Though originally listed for $495,000, the price has dropped three times since, and is now asking for $395,000-a drop of $100,000!

Journalist David Begnaud noticed the sale recently and tweeted out the info about the home.

The six bedroom, five bathroom San Juan home was on display in the Netflix documentary Mucho Mucho Amor, and was home to the Puerto Rican icon for many years. He sold his Miami condo in 2017, to help recoup some of the losses he experienced after being scammed by one of his representatives. Many of his items were sold then, when Mercado insisted he couldn’t fit many of the items in his six bedroom San Juan home-where he lived until his death.

His nieces had hoped that they could convert the residence into a museum, but finally put the home up for sale when it was confirmed that due to some residential laws, it could not be made into a museum. Neither of the family members reside in San Juan, and the home needed some work done, so they felt it was best to sell it.

Regarding Mercado’s belongings that were contained within the home, one of his nieces specified that though family members have each kept some items, many were given to the Miami History Museum, and some items will go to Mexico, as he had many fans there as well. However, his cape with the Puerto Rican flag is being sent to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.

“Walter would have been satisfied with the distribution, because his greatest love was his audience,” said Ivonne Benet, Mercado’s niece.
